Academic at the Max - Planck - Institute in Freiburg (Germany), in the fields of foreign and International criminal law since 1967

In 1975, he passed his post - doctoral degree

Since 1981, Professor of German and International criminal law and of criminal procedure law and Criminology at the University of Freiburg (Germany)

From 1990 until 2002, member of the German Parliament. In 1999/2000, he was delegated by the German Parliament for the European Convent of Fundamental Rights and in 2002/2003 for the European Constitution Convent
