Resolving conflicts permanently and directly with the opponent - and the help of a mediator - instead of a relying on a third party, that is the basic notion of mediation.

Mediation can be and is used successfully in many areas of the law - in corporate law: for disputes between shareholders; in inheritance law: for conflicts among heirs; in family law: to resolve disputes between spouses and with children: even in insolvency law, mediation is used to an increasing extent to avoid insolvency proceedings. Mediation is also playing an increasingly important role in cross-border economic matters, where cultural sensitivity and understanding for both parties to the conflict is required.

Several of our lawyers at Derra, Meyer & Partner are also trained mediators and offer this voluntary form of conflict resolution as a service, particularly in the field of commercial and insolvency law.
